URL QR Code Generator
Turn any link into a scannable QR code — free, instant, no account needed
A URL QR code is the most versatile and widely used QR code type. It encodes any web address — a product page, a social profile, a booking form, a landing page, or any URL — into a scannable image that opens in the phone's browser with a single scan. No typing, no spelling errors, no "did you get the link I sent?" A URL QR code works on every smartphone made in the last decade and requires no app to scan.

What URLs can you encode in a QR code?
Any valid URL works: standard website URLs (https://example.com), deep links into apps (twitter://user?screen_name=qrmaven), YouTube videos, Google Maps locations, Google Forms, Calendly booking pages, Shopify product pages, social media profiles, file downloads, or anything else that has a web address. You can also use URL shorteners like Bitly or TinyURL before generating the QR code — shorter URLs produce less dense codes that scan more reliably at smaller print sizes.
HTTPS URLs are strongly recommended over HTTP, both for security and because some browsers will show a warning when loading an unsecured URL from a QR scan. If your site still uses HTTP, consider redirecting to HTTPS before creating your QR code.
Static vs dynamic URL QR codes
A static URL QR code has the destination permanently baked into the image. It works forever as long as the URL is live, but if the URL ever changes, you need to reprint. A dynamic URL QR code routes through QRMaven's servers — the printed code never changes, but you can update the destination URL at any time through your dashboard. Dynamic codes also give you scan analytics: count, date, location, and device for every scan.
For business cards, product packaging, or any printed material with a long lifespan, a dynamic QR code is worth considering. For short-lived campaigns (a flyer for a one-time event, a temporary promotion) a free static code is perfectly sufficient.
Making your URL QR code scan-reliable
Print size is the most critical factor. A URL QR code should be at least 2×2 cm for smartphone scanning at arm's length. For outdoor signage or distance scanning, scale up proportionally — a billboard QR code may need to be 30×30 cm or larger. Always download the SVG format for print — it scales infinitely without pixelation. Use the highest error correction level (H) if you plan to add a logo to the center of the code, as this allows up to 30% of the code to be obscured while remaining scannable. Test by scanning from the expected real-world distance before printing in volume.
